Dwayne Eugene Moore, 65, of South Bend, Indiana passed away on Wednesday, May 27, 2026. He was born on January 16, 1961 in Great Bend, Kansas to Gene Moore and Earlene (Tibbs) James. On October 18, 1981 at The Knights of Columbus in South Bend he married his high school sweetheart Amintori Lorell (Orr) Moore who survives. Dwayne is also survived by two sons, Landon Eugene Moore of South Bend, Indiana, Dominique Cameron (Brianna Hines) Moore of Elkhart, Indiana, his mother, Earlene James of Fishers, Indiana, six grandchildren, Kylin, Josiah, Alijah, Kyree, Zaire and Gabriel, two sisters, Wyvonne Moore and Darla Smith, who he was very close with, his uncle Gerald Reece who was more like a brother to Dwayne and his cousin Johnny Reece. Dwayne was preceded in death by his father, Gene James Moore, Maternal Grandparents, Arthur and Eloise Reece, Paternal Grandparents, James Moore and Annabelle Brewer, Maternal Great-Grandfather, Nacy Tibbs and his great uncle, Nay Tibbs.
Dwayne’s first job was as a meat cutter at Thrifty Mart, where he worked for several years before beginning a new chapter at McDonald’s. There, he eventually became a swing manager. His time at McDonald’s taught him many valuable life lessons and helped prepare him for future opportunities.
He later worked at the Marriott for 18 years, starting as a bar back and eventually becoming one of the head bartenders. Dwayne was an excellent bartender, and many guests specifically requested him when they came into the bar. He often bragged about how well he could make margaritas and Long Island iced teas, proudly saying that no one could make them like he could.
Dwayne also worked at LaSalle Grill, where he eventually became the club manager of Club LaSalle upstairs. After several years there, he began working at the University of Notre Dame in the catering department as an event coordinator. He continued his career there for 19 years until his retirement in 2018.
Dwayne loved his family deeply, especially his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed cooking on the grill, welcoming people into his home, and playing dominoes. He also took great pride in keeping an immaculate yard. He loved for his grass to be green, neatly trimmed, and beautiful.
Dwayne loved sports, especially basketball. The Chicago Bulls were his favorite team during the Michael Jordan era. His love for basketball was so great that he even named his sons after basketball players: Landon was named after Landon Turner, and Dominique was named after Dominique Wilkins.
He also loved taking family vacations, often including his nephews and his special niece, Cecily Smith-Rogers. He shared a very close bond with his uncle Gerald, who was more like a brother to him. They were only a year apart and talked on the phone daily. Dwayne also had two very dear friends, Michael Stevens Allen Whitt and Sammy Betts, with whom he enjoyed traveling. They, too, were like brothers to him.
Dwayne will be dearly missed by his loving wife, Tori; his two sons; his grandchildren; his mother; his sisters; and a host of relatives, cousins, friends, and former coworkers. Dwayne seemed to know almost everyone in town, and his presence, laughter, love, and unforgettable personality will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A visitation for Dwayne will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2026 from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm at the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Dr. South Bend, IN. A time of sharing will take place at 2:00 pm in the funeral home. Contributions may be in Dwayne’s remembrance to his family to help defray end of life expenses.
