Dr. Venkata “Sam” Musunuru, 77, of Granger, Indiana passed away on Wednesday, May 14, 2025 surrounded by his family. He was born on June 15, 1947 in India. He is survived by his wife Manjula, daughter, Swapna (Brian) Eisinger, son, Harsha (Sakthi) Musunuru, and two grandchildren, Anjali and Archana.
Sam served as an assistant professor of Anesthesia at IU Medical Center. He moved to South Bend in 1983 where he practiced Anesthesia at Memorial Hospital for thirty-nine years. He had a deep sense of commitment and compassion for his community. In 1986 he co-founded the Balaji Temple in Aurora, Illinois where he served as the chairman for the last six years. He was an avid skier, scuba diver, kayaker, windsurfer, and horseman. In his spare time, he enjoyed carpentry and wine making. During his life he enjoyed reading history and philosophy as well as traveling around the world. He was known to his friends for his great sense of humor, wit and willingness to give a lending hand.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2025 at the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Dr. South Bend, In from 12:00 pm until 3:00 pm. A time of remembrance will be held from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm in the funeral home.
