Douglas M. Dodd

Douglas M. Dodd, 72, of New Carlisle, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Virginia (Peterson) Dodd, and his brothers, Richard and Ronald Dodd.

Douglas is survived by his daughters, Shannon (Delton) Heil, Meghan (Mayra) Sprague, and Taylor (Daniel) Brown; his son, Nolan (Courtney) Dodd; eight grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and many loving cousins.

Douglas was born on September 12, 1953, in South Bend, Indiana, to the late Walter and Virginia (Peterson) Dodd. He graduated from New Prairie High School in 1971. Doug worked hard throughout his life, spending many years as a Heat and Frost Insulator with Local 75 before later serving as the union’s Business Agent.

When retirement finally arrived, Doug traded workdays for highways and became a full-time RVer. With his beloved dog, Wally, by his side, he traveled to all 50 states, making memories and enjoying the freedom of the open road. Whether at home or on the road, Doug could usually be found enjoying one of his many interests—woodworking, gardening, NHRA drag racing, NASCAR, cheering on his Green Bay Packers, or rooting for Notre Dame.

Above all, Doug leaves behind family and friends who loved him dearly and a lifetime of memories, hilarious stories, photos and adventures that will continue to be shared for years to come.

The family would like to extend a special and heartfelt thank you to the staff at Miller’s Merry Manor in New Carlisle. Your genuine small-town kindness and the comfort you provided during such a difficult time will always be remembered and deeply appreciated.
