Dorothy M. Loree, 93, of New Carlisle, passed away on Tuesday April 25, 2023 at Miller's Merry Manor, New Carlisle. She was born on February 20, 1930, in Otis, IN, to the late Frank F. and Regina (Wozniak) Modjeska. On August 30, 1952, she married William E. Hendricks. She later married Donald Loree Sr. on April 30, 1977, who preceded her in death on June 23, 1999. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Frances Modjeska and Betty Miller, two brothers, Thomas and Edward Modjeska, by a sister-in-law, Lola Modjeska and two brothers-in-law, John Miller and Robert Andrews. Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Linda K. Sawyer of South Bend and Marcella A. (Charles) Nicholson of Lynn, IN, her son, Michael J. (Leanne) Hendricks of New Carlisle; three step-children; Donald (Ellen) Loree, Jr. and Diane (Paul) Scales, both of FL and David (Tammy) Loree of GA, seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, three sisters; Mary Andrews of Alsip, IL, Josephine Carroll of Hudson Lake, IN and Carol Weber of Jackson, MI and by a brother, Frank (Lynn) Modjeska of New Carlisle. Mrs. Loree worked as a cook at Miller's Merry Manor in New Carlisle for over ten years before retirement. She was a member of the American Legion Post #297 Auxiliary and the St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church, Terre Coupee, where she was very active and was also a member of the Rosary Society. Dorothy loved to knit and garden. A visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. EDT Saturday April 29, 2023 at the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 201 S. Filbert St., New Carlisle. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. EDT at St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church, New Carlisle, with burial to follow in New Carlisle Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Joseph County Humane Society or St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church.
