Dorothy was born on May 16, 1930, in Green Bay, Wisconsin to E. Margaret (Layne) and Frank R. Eckert. After graduation from Carl Schurz high school in Chicago in 1948, she received an associate’s degree from Wright Junior College also in Chicago, Il. in 1950. In 1954 she earned her bachelor’s degree in Journalism from the University of Illinois. In 1981, she received her master’s degree in education, with honors, from Indiana University at South Bend. In 1955, she married Robert J. Lordi, and they moved to South Bend, Indiana in 1958. They had two children, Paul, South Bend, and Margaret (Billy), Fleming Island, FL. and three grandchildren, Abigail, Alexa and Joseph. She was a volunteer for the League of Women Voters, Southold, Legal Services of Northern Indiana, URC Advocacy Center, the St. Joseph Public Library, the Literacy Council and the Indiana chapter of NAMI. She taught at St. Joseph’s High School, Southwestern Michigan College, and was a substitute teacher and Chapter One tutor for the South Bend School Corporation. She was a member of the ladies of Notre Dame, National Society of Mayflower descendants, Daughters of the American Revolution, Descendants of Ancient Windsor, CT., and Jamestown Descendants. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, July 24, 2025 at Cedar Grove Cemetery. Online condolences may be left at www.kaniewski.com
