Dennis P. "Duck" Grontkowski

Dennis P. “Duck” Grontkowski, 79, of South Bend, Indiana passed away at 5:30 a.m. Sunday, August 23, 2026, in Holy Cross Rehabilitation and Wellness.  Dennis was born on December 18, 1946 in South Bend, Indiana to Edwin and Henrietta (Niespodziany) Grontkowski, and was a lifelong resident.  He retired from the St. Joseph County Weights and Measures Department. Dennis is survived by his sweetheart, Kathleen Mahoney.  He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Rose Grontkowski; his nieces and nephew, Lynne (Alan) Wright, Laurie (Larry) Foor, Lee Ann (Chris) Paluzzi, Lisa (Jim) Reynolds, Leslie Keck and Dennis Edward John (Megan) Grontkowski; many great-nieces and great-nephews; and his extended family, Robbie (Mindy) Evans and Jennifer Prawat.  Dennis was preceded in death by his brother, Ronald Grontkowski.  A Catholic Funeral Service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Friday, August 28, 2026 in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, Indiana. A visitation will take place from 1:00 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.  Dennis was a 1964 graduate of Washington High School and attended Purdue University. He was a Boilermaker True and True.  Dennis was a member of M.R. Falcons and a former member of The Breezers and Four Lakes Country Club.  He loved  golfing. Dennis was a huge Chicago Cubs and Bears fan and enjoyed his trips to Las Vegas with the boys.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions should be directed to the American Diabetes Association.
