Dennis L. Sebasty, 77, of New Carlisle, Indiana passed away on Monday, September 28, 2026 at home surrounded by his family. He was born on February 25, 1949 in Niles, Michigan to the late Leslie and Florence (House) Sebasty. On April 3, 1971 he married Diane Marie Codman who preceded him in death on April 8, 2010. Dennis was also preceded by his four brothers, Carl, Leslie, Jr., Kenneth and Paul Sebasty. He is survived by one daughter, Angela M. Arndt of Bybee, Tennesee, two sons, Greg L. (Shawnie) Sebasty of Buchanan, Michigan and Ryan N. (Heather) Sebasty of New Carlisle, Indiana, nine grandchildren; Lauren Auclair, Nickolas (Hannah) and Nathan Arndt, Cody, Austin and Brayden Sebasty, Rhys, Liam and Kaia Sebasty, one sister, Martha Milliken of South Bend, Indiana, three great grandchildren, Nora Jay, Hazley and Nova Sebasty and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Sebasty graduated from New Carlisle High School in 1968; playing on the basketball team and involved in the FFA and 4-H fair. He then joined the US Army in 1969. While in the Army during the Vietnam War, he was a sargent awarded the Bronze Star for bravery when rescuing many of his fellow soldiers during an ambush. After returning home from the war, he married his high school sweetheart, Diane Codman, waiting for his return. They had a loving 39 years of marriage, having 3 children, until her death in 2010.
After the war he worked on his brother's dairy farm, then was employed for approx. 26 years at Carborundum/ UniFrax Corp, upon retiring. He and Diane then took on being owner operators for FedEx Custom Critical for 11 yrs. They enjoyed traveling across the US seeing beautiful states they have never been to before, as they team drove in their FedEx truck.
When not working in a factory or driving truck, Dennis was hard at work on his farm raising beef cattle, but in the past also raised pigs, and chickens. In his fields he grew soybeans, wheat, and alfalfa. He was partial to John Deere tractors and proudly wore his dirty, sweat stained John Deere cap every day. Farming was his life! He worked hard and loved doing it! His wife and kids helped him on the farm throughout the years by baling together, loading up cows, fixing broken fence, mowing, and so much more.
He was tough, never to complain about himself, and was eager to help anyone who needed it. When not in the fields, you could find him in the garage mending something. There was nothing he couldn't fix or put together!
In the past he was on pool leagues, Carbo's men’s baseball league, and euchre card teams at the Chain-O-Lakes Conservation Club. He also prepared many, many delicious hog roasts for family and friends parties and enjoyed every minute of the tedious task. He was a long time Notre Dame Football fan! He would be sure to get work done outside, get cleaned up, so he could watch the game on tv. Whether fall or winter, he loved watching ND Football and ND Basketball!
In his most recent last years, he enjoyed going to the Chain-O-Lakes Conservation Club which he was a member of for nearly the last 12 years; served as vice president, enjoyed talking with buddies, helping out with the drawing, playing euchre, bingo, and listening to the live band.
Dennis will definitely be missed by his family and friends.
