Debbie M. Schmidt

Debbie M. Schmidt, 62, of Mishawaka, IN, passed away on Friday January 17, 2025 at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka with her husband and children by her side.  She was born on September 29, 1962, in South Bend, to the late Eugene and Henrietta (Kolesiak) Jedrzejewski.  On January 14, 2005 she married Lee Schmidt, who survives.  Also surviving are her two daughters, Rachelle (Michael) Thompson of Mishawaka and Melanie Schmidt of Niles, MI, her son, Robert (Jill) Mattasits of Bowling Green, KY, a step-son, Lee (Emily) Carlton of Durham, NC, eight grandchildren, Mark Mitchell, Robert and Wyatt Mattasits, Skylee and Emerald Scott, Emily Thompson and Bella and Kayeli Carlton, and a brother, Dean Uminski of The Villages, FL.  Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Joe Schmidt and two brothers, Dale Jedrzejewski and Dwayne Uminski.  Mrs. Schmidt worked as an Emergency Medical Technician with the New Carlisle Community Ambulance Service and other various local EMS services.  She was also a firefighter with Warren Township and Southwest Fire Territory.  She loved her grandchildren to the moon and back.  She lived her life to serve others and welcomed everyone she met with open arms.  She enjoyed traveling, family vacations, hiking and her puppy Nova.  A visitation for Debbie will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday January 23, 2025 at the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N.
