David John Hume, III

November 2, 1943 – February 21, 2026

David John Hume III, a family man through and through, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones following a brief illness on Saturday, February 21, 2026.

Dave is survived by Connie Jo, his beloved wife of 61 years, as well as their four children: Anne (David) Niespodziany, Karin (Michael) Alwine, Debbie (Kevin) Lastuck, and David John (Maggie) Hume IV. He will also be deeply missed by his grandchildren Justin, Lindsey, Sarah, Holly, Katlyn, DJ, Grace, Sophie, Cole, and Wyatt, as well as by their spouses and his five great grandchildren. Countless friends as close as family will also carry on his memory. 

After a long and dedicated career in Banking, Dave retired to devote his days to the people he cherished most. He loved his family fiercely, and nothing brought him greater joy than gathering everyone together for Sunday afternoons by the pool, birthdays, holidays, and any occasion in between. He loved to spend his free time fishing with his son, vacationing in northern Michigan with his wife, and cheering on the Chicago Bears and Fighting Irish from his favorite chair, gin martini in hand. 

Though our hearts are deeply broken, the memories of his beautiful life, and the love he shared will remain with us forever.

Our family would like to extend our deepest gratitude to Ascent Hospice and the nurses and physicians at Memorial Hospital for their tremendous care and support. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church (3526 St. John’s Way, South Bend, IN 46628) at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 7. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Ascent Hospice (1930 Edison Rd., South Bend, IN 46617).
