David Eugene Wideman

David Eugene Wideman, 83, of South Bend, Indiana passed away unexpectedly, Sunday March 30, 2025, in his home. Dave was born on January 30, 1942 in Goshen, Indiana to the late Willard and Mary (Kauffman) Wideman. On June 19, 1965 in St. Matthew Cathedral he married Jeanine E. Lipetska who survives.  Dave is also survived by his two daughters, Jill (Mike) Kaniewski of South Bend, Indiana and Jenna (Brandon) Pearish of Bremen, Indiana; four grandchildren, Tim (Rachel) Kaniewski of South Bend, Indiana, Alex (Jared Hubbard) Kaniewski of Los Angeles, California and Brayden and Braxton Pearish of Bremen, Indiana; and one great grandson Cameron Kaniewski.

Dave was a 1960 graduate of Goshen High School. He received his bachelor degree from Indiana University in 1965. Dave had been employed with the former Selmer Company in Elkhart, Indiana and had worked as a Credit Manager for Hubbel-Raco for 27 years.  He was a longtime member of St Anthony de Padua Catholic Church. Dave was an avid supporter of all Notre Dame sports, especially the women’s basketball team. Dave spent a lot of his free time in retirement attending all of his grandchildren’s activities and sporting events. Dave volunteered for many years with the St. Vincent de Paul Society.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 7, 2025 in St. Anthony de Padua Church. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. Sunday in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, where a rosary will be prayed at 5:30 p.m.  A visitation will also take place from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Monday in St. Anthony de Padua Church. David will be buried at a later date  in Highland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Dave’s honor to St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church or the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
