Daniel J. Urbanski, 90, of New Carlisle, IN, passed away on Thursday, April 27, 2023 in his home.
He was born on December 1, 1932 to the late Felix and Lottie (Seckowski) Urbanski in South Bend, IN, and was lifelong area resident. Along with his parents; he was preceded in death by a sister, Adeline Wasowski; three brothers, Monja, Richard, and Eugene Urbanski; a niece, Kathy Klein; and two step sons, Mark and Gary Vedder.
Dan graduated in 1951 from Central High School, where he was a star halfback and was nicknamed “Dashing Dan”, because of his prowess on the football field. He then went on to receive a diploma from Michiana College of Commerce. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, where he served his country from 1953-1955.
He retired in 1982 from Interstate Motor Freight, where he worked as a Claims Adjuster for 17 years. When they closed, he worked at OfficeMax, Value City, and part time for the South Bend Tribune.
On May 5, 1973, he married Catherine (Brucker) Vedder. Dan is survived by his loving wife of nearly 50 years, Catherine Urbanski of New Carlisle, IN; one step granddaughter, Cashael Vedder; one step great-granddaughter, Clarissa Dunnaway; a niece, Judith Bajorek of South Bend, IN; and two nephews, James (Connie) Wasowski of Punta Gorda, FL; and Michael (Sandy) Wasowski of South Bend, IN.
Dan was a member of St. John Kanty Parish in Rolling Prairie, IN and a former member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #58 in South Bend.
A memorial visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. Wednesday, June 14, 2023 at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 201 S. Filbert Street, New Carlisle, IN 46652. A Memorial Mass will follow at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 14, 2022 at St. Ann Catholic Church, 6894 N. Walnut Street, Monterey, IN 46960.
In lieu of flowers, mass intentions may be made in Dan’s memory.
