Cyril “Bud” Frank Rose Jr. Obituary

November 7, 1939 — April 8, 2026

86 Years Old

Bud Rose, age 86, went to see His Savior face to face on April 8th, 2026, in his home in Edwardsburg, Michigan with his wife, Sharon, of 64 years by his side. Born November 7, 1939 in South Bend, Indiana, Bud was the second child of Dr. Cyril Rose Sr. and Florence (Mitchell) Rose. Bud was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his brother Thomas (Lynn) Rose and his sister Marcia Hartleb.

Bud, lovingly known as “Dad” and “Papa,” was a man of exuberant joy, deep faith, and a heart dedicated to serving his family and community. Bud wore many hats in his life, and he wore each one exceptionally well. However, the role that Bud treasured the most was husband to his dear wife Sharon. The two of them met during their grade school days in South Bend and would attend weekly youth group meetings together. Not only did they get to grow old together, but they also grew up together. Beginning in 8th grade, Bud declared that “Sharon would become his wife”. He went after that goal wholeheartedly. Sharon, too, became very fond of him, and she especially loved his cheerful disposition. Bud very quickly became Sharon’s favorite dance partner, not only at school functions, but also in life.

Bud went on to attend the University of Notre Dame (‘61) where he studied Accounting, was a member of the Sailing Club, and joined ROTC. After graduation, Sharon and Bud were married on December 30th, 1961. Shortly after their wedding, Bud served in the U.S. Army as a Tank Commander in Germany during the Cold War. From a young age, Bud was trusted with positions of leadership where he would always rise to the occasion and empower others to do the same.

After his time in the military concluded, Bud utilized his business acumen and leadership abilities, both owning and managing several retail stores in a variety of cities. However, of utmost importance in his life, he became the proud “Dad” to his and Sharon’s six children: Chris (Stephanie) Rose, Trice (Rich) Was, Tami (Randy) Raciti, Kevin (Kristina) Rose, Paul Rose, and Christin Rose.

While growing a family, Bud and Sharon experienced a call to join the People of Praise, an ecumenical Christian Community. Through the People of Praise, they spent their life building Christian Community and spreading the joy of the Gospel to all they met. During this time, Bud and 2 other men founded Christians in Commerce whose main objective is to be Christ in the workplace through the power of the Holy Spirit. Bud had a unique ability to make anyone feel welcomed, heard, and supported. The word ‘stranger’ did not exist in Bud’s vocabulary. Rather, he viewed everyone as a son or daughter of the Lord; therefore, he treated them as his brother or sister in Christ.

Despite undergoing many trials and tribulations in his life, Bud’s faith never wavered and his heart remained soft. He approached life through the lens of thanksgiving even during his final years when his health was so compromised. He often was heard saying “Glory to God!”, in good time or in bad. His Lord was his greatest comfort and joy.

Starting at the young age of nine, Bud learned how to sail during his summers spent on Eagle Lake. This love for sailing lasted through the years as he sailed during college and eventually bought a sailboat of his own, which he utilized to create fun and lasting memories with Sharon, his six children, his 30 grandchildren, and his 18 (soon to be 20) great-grandchildren. He spent many joyful moments on the water of Lake Michigan with Sharon as crew and the rest of his family hoisting the sails.

In addition to sailing, Bud enjoyed painting and making crucifixes for his entire family. Even in his last week, he said, “I need to make more crucifixes for the new great grand-kids.” His heart was as wide and deep as the ocean, and his kindness knew no bounds. He was a man who shared freely whatever he had with others. Bud was a husband, Dad, Papa, brother, friend, cook, businessman, sailor; but, above all, he was a man of God, and he lived his life in pursuit of the Lord. Bud will be missed beyond measure.

We invite you all to celebrate Bud’s life with us as a public visitation will be held on Monday, April 13th at the People of Praise Center, 53666 North Ironwood Road, beginning with an hour for visitation at 6:00 p.m, followed by a wake service at 7:00 p.m. The celebration of life will continue on Tuesday, April 14th, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church located at 24832 US-12 East, Edwardsburg, MI.  Preceding Mass, there will be a visitation from 9:00 - 9:45 a.m. There will also be a luncheon following the funeral Mass. We would be honored to have you join us in giving thanks for the gift of Bud’s life.
