Charlie "Big Chuck" Davis

Charles “Big Chuck” Henry Davis, Sr., 83 of New Carlisle, Indiana passed away surrounded by his family on Wednesday, September 2, 2026. He was born on July 22, 1943 in South Bend, Indiana to the late Lyle and Nora (Burks) Davis. On November 28, 1974 at The Justice of Peace at Hudson Lake he married Barbara Ann (Macias) Davis who survives him. Charlie is also survived by one daughter, Angela Davis of Rolling Prairie, Indiana, one son, Charles (Andrea) Davis, Jr. of South Bend, Indiana, five grandchildren, Chayse (Grace) Davis, Bryana (Bryce) Baker, Brittney (Nate Martin) Sanders, Gabby Davis and Haddie “Foof” Davis, two great grandchildren, Everett and Elsie Davis, two sisters, Sharon (Jim) Jones and Donna (Ed) Swank and one brother, Marvin Davis. Charlie was also preceded in death by one daughter, Michelle Sanders and one sister, Rita Lloyd. 

Charlie, who served his country for two years in Vietnam, always responded to recognition of his service with the same words: "68/69 Big Red One Lived in the bush." Charlie was a commercial well driller for Peerless Midwest, known for his exceptional work ethic. He found joy in coaching his daughters' softball teams, cruising on his pontoon boat, building fires in his barn, always winning at the casino and attending his grandchildren's sporting events, especially if there was a concession stand. Charlie was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a dog lover, particularly fond of his dogs, Sassy and the late Sarge. He was also a very sociable person who enjoyed meeting new people. Regardless of whether you had known him for years or had just met him, he always left a lasting impression.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 9, 2026 at the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Dr. South Bend, IN from 3:00 pm EDT until 7:00 pm EDT. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 10, 2026 at the Kaniewski Funeral Home in South Bend at 11:00 am EDT. Visitation will take place for one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made in Charlie’s honor to The Disabled American Veterans at mydav.org
