Carol Greathouse Obituary

Carol Sue Greathouse, 76, of New Carlisle, Indiana passed away on Friday, January 24, 2025. She was born on May 12, 1948 in Shelbyville, Illinois to the late Daniel and Mary (Hudson) Martz.

On August 31, 1968 at the Hudson Lake Mennonite Church, she married Robert Greathouse who preceded her in death on April 26, 2021. Carol is survived by one daughter, Maredith Greathouse of New Carlisle, Indiana, three sons, Robert (Oksana) Greathouse of Lakeville, Indiana, James (Lisa) Greathouse of Mill Creek, Indiana and Andrew (Ashley) Greathouse of Roswell, Georgia, 14 grandchildren, two great grandchildren, four sisters, Marilyn Keller of New Carlisle, Indiana, Jackie (Bill) Cauffman of South Bend, Indiana, Kathy (Tim) Schwenk of Fort Mohave, Arizona and Pam Scott of New Carlisle, Indiana, two brothers, Tom (Julie) Martz of Valparaiso, Indiana, Steve (LuAnn) Martz of LaPorte, Indiana and one sister in law, Linda Greathouse.

A force to be reckoned with, Carol was a woman of bold faith, fierce determination, and an unwavering commitment to her calling. Born the oldest of seven children, Carol learned early on how to lead. She married her high school sweetheart, Bob, shortly after he joined the Navy and spent the beginning years of their marriage in Jacksonville, Florida as he served out his military service.

Carol was a housewife who loved her four children. She also cherished her role as grandmother, sister, and friend, always ensuring that her family knew they were deeply loved.

Her life was a testament to faith and resilience. After surviving a devastating car accident that left her with a broken neck, she made a full recovery through sheer determination and God’s grace.

A devoted servant of God, Carol was an ordained minister and she had a deep passion for sharing the Gospel. She co-founded Dove Ministries International and wrote a weekly newspaper column called The Dove Report. Carol served for a time as chaplain at LaPorte Hospital and helped adults with GED classes. She was always leading a Bible study or small group in her home and was actively involved in March for Jesus. For close to 15 years she was co-pastor with her husband of Olive Chapel Church in New Carlisle. Carol and Bob were known to go at anytime and pray for the sick in their homes, visit in hospitals, and minister to the dying. Her unwavering commitment to her faith and her mission touched the lives of many.

Carol loved to travel. She traveled to many interesting places including St. Petersburg, Russia, Jerusalem, Israel, and led a group of teenagers on an international mission trip to Mexico. But the place that Carol loved the most out of all her travels were the mountains of her second home in Dayton, Tennessee. Serving Jesus was the most important thing in her life. It was Carol’s heartfelt desire that every person come to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. May she rest in eternal peace, rejoicing in the presence of the Lord she so faithfully served.
