C. Edward “Ed” Wray, Jr., 83, of South Bend, IN, passed away Friday, September 30, 2022 in his home, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on September 3, 1939 to the late Carl Edward, Sr. and Alice (McIntee) Wray in South Bend, IN, and was a lifelong area resident. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Kathleen Lemme, and two brothers, James and Gerald Wray.
Ed graduated in 1957 from St. Joseph High School in South Bend, before serving in the U.S. Army and the reserves for a total of 7 ½ years.
He retired in December 2009 from Hull Lift Truck, Inc., where he worked as a Sales Manager for 23 years.
On September 15, 1962, he married Rose Mary Simeri at St. Joseph Catholic Church in South Bend, IN. Ed is survived by his loving wife, Rose of 60 years; one daughter, Shaun (Andy) Paluczak of San Diego, CA; two sons, Edward (Mary Ann) Wray of Canton, MI; Michael (Callie) Wray of Whitefish, MT; seven grandchildren, Matthew Wray; Natalie Wray; Peter Wray; Emma Wray; Jackson Paluczak; Nick Wray; and Van Paluczak; and one sister, Beth Ann (Joseph) Portolese of Mishawaka, IN.
Ed was a member of Sacred Heart Parish, Notre Dame, IN; and a former member of St. Anthony de Padua Parish, South Bend, IN, where he served on the Athletic Board and Parish Council. Ed was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #1878 in Mishawaka, IN and a past President of the Notre Dame Quarterback Club. Ed loved all things Notre Dame.
Visitation will be from 2-7 p.m. Sunday, October 16, 2022 at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN, where a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 5:15 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 9:30 a.m. Monday, October 17, 2022 at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, on the campus of the University of Notre Dame, with Rev. Peter Rocca, C.S.C. officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Notre Dame, IN.
