Brother John Frederick Tryon, C.S.C.

June 26, 1948 – January 23, 2022

Brother John Frederick Tryon, C.S.C., age 73, died on January 23, 2022 at Casa San Juan, in Santiago, Chile where he worked as a teacher since 2020. He was born in Mansfield, Ohio, the fourteenth of sixteen children of Willis Tryon and Helen Rachel (Tryon). He grew up there and attended elementary and high school in Lucas, OH where he graduated in 1966. Brother John joined the Congregation of Holy Cross in 1966 taking final vows in 1975. Over the next fifty years he severed in many congregational schools in the Midwest, and most notably as an instructor in English at Holy Cross College from 2000 through August of 2014.  His students knew him as a demanding and much liked teacher. In 2014, he volunteered to go to Lima, Peru where he worked with young men in their formation as prospective members of the Congregation of Holy Cross.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Monday, January 31, 2022 at 10:00 am at St. Joseph Chapel of Holy Cross College at Notre Dame.  Memorial contributions, in honor of Brother John, to support the mission and ministries of the Brothers, may be sent to: Brothers of Holy Cross, Office of Development, P.O.
