Brother Jerome Francis Kroetsch, C.S.C.

Brother Jerome Francis Kroetsch, C.S.C., age 89, died on November 24, 2022 in Columba Hall, at the University of Notre Dame, in Notre Dame, Indiana. He was born in Snover, Michigan on July 12, 1933, the seventh child of eight of Charles and Hilda (Hergot) Kroetsch. He attended Urban Elementary School in Snover and then Sandusky High School in Sandusky, Michigan, graduating in 1952. He helped on the family farm and joined the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956. While serving at Fort Bliss, Texas, he rose to the rank of Specialist 3rd Class. After discharge, he worked on the family farm until 1960 when he followed a calling to the religious life and entered Sacred Heart Juniorate, in Watertown, Wisconsin, in the fall of 1960. A few months later, he went to St. Joseph’s Novitiate in Rolling Prairie, Indiana where a year later, on January 26, 1962, he pronounced his first vows as a Brother of Holy Cross. He stayed at the Novitiate to serve as a staff member at Silver Lake Farm for one year. From 1963 through 2006, he served in the United States, Bangladesh, the Virgin Islands, the West Indies, and Ghana in education and general maintenance. He was skilled as an electrician, auto mechanic and in other industrial trades. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 29, 2022, at St. Joseph Chapel, Holy Cross College from 10:00 to 11:00 am on the grounds of Holy Cross Village at Notre Dame. The Mass of Resurrection will follow with interment in St. Joseph’s Cemetery of the Village. Kaniewski Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
