Betty Carolene Freestone, 83, of New Carlisle, Indiana, passed away on June 3, 2026. She was born July 7, 1942 in Brems, Indiana, to the late Walter and Hattie Christoph.
On May 20, 1962, she married Charles A. “Chuck” Freestone, and the couple began their married life in California while Chuck completed his service in the U.S. Navy. They returned home to settle in New Carlisle, Indiana, with a five-year interruption when Chuck was transferred by Bendix to Rocky Mount, North Carolina. In retirement, Chuck and Betty enjoyed several winters at Tropic Star RV Resort in Pharr, Texas and a few years at Pinnacle Port in Panama City Beach, Florida.
Betty was a faithful member of New Carlisle United Methodist Church, the American Legion Auxiliary, and Historic New Carlisle. She was a former member of the Star Riders Square Dance Club and a dedicated member of the library group that gathered to play euchre every Wednesday afternoon.
In Texas, Betty learned to quilt from a retired home economics teacher from Iowa, and that gift became her legacy. Every member of her family received a quilt handmade by her — many received more than one.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles A. Freestone, in 2021; her son, Christopher Freestone; sisters Francine Noddings, Marvelene Stacy, and Shirley Fear; and brothers Ted Christoph and W. Lloyd Christoph.
Betty leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughters: Carolene (Frank) Walker of Edwardsburg, Michigan, and Cassandra (Michael) Koselke of Rolling Prairie, Indiana; daughter-in-law Jennifer (Chris) Owsianowski of New Carlisle, Indiana, 9 grandchildren, Heather (Greg) Martis, Holly (Mark) Richwalski, Kevin (Kelly) Leinbach, Nicholas Walker, Ellyn (Abelson) Koselke, Jared Koselke, Jacob (Abby) Koselke, Katelyn (Jon) Flory, Bradley Freestone, 10 great grandchildren, Sydney, Tyler, Arleigh, Michael, Oliver, Avery, Aspen, Alice, Aurora, and Elizabeth, one brother Duane (Shirley) Christoph, Knox, Indiana and several beloved brother-in-law’s and sister-in-law’s.
Betty loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren deeply and never missed an opportunity to brag about their accomplishments. She enjoyed attending their sporting events, programs, and milestones. She will be missed by all who knew her.
A visitation for Betty will be held on Monday, June 8, 2026 at the New Carlisle United Methodist Church, 300 E Compton Street, New Carlisle, IN from 10:00 am EDT until 1:00 pm EDT. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm EDT in the church. Burial will follow in Rolling Prairie Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the New Carlisle United Methodist Church in Betty’s honor.
