Barbara J. Slabaugh Obituary

Barbara J. (Borntrager) Turnock.  She retired from X-Ray Consultants, where she was employed as a Radiologic Technologist for more than 35 years.  On April 16, 1966 at Holy Cross Church, she married Richard G. Slabaugh, who preceded her in death on December 2, 2020.  She was also preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin and Ruth Turnock; and her brother, Daniel P. Turnock.  Barbara is survived by her daughter, Sharon S. (Mark) Mowery of Greenwood, Indiana; her son, David A. (Tina) Slabaugh of Osceola, Indiana; four grandchildren, Colin (Katie) Mowery of Franklin, Indiana, Kaitlin Mowery of Chicago, Illinois, Austin Slabaugh of Osceola, Indiana, and Joshua (Jenna) Slabaugh of Mishawaka, Indiana; her sister, Sue Pare of South Bend, Indiana, and brother Donald Turnock of Arkansas; and by many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Barbara was a devoted member of St. Monica Parish, where she loved serving her church and helping with funeral luncheons. She found joy in life’s simple pleasures including but very much not limited to crafting, decorating, working on crossword puzzles, enjoying chocolate, and spending time watching Days of Our Lives. Above all, Barbara loved her family more than anything. Her grandchildren held a particularly special place in her heart. Being their Mammaw was one of her greatest joys, and the time she spent with her children and grandchildren meant the world to her.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 13, 2026 in St. Monica Church.  Burial will follow in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park.  A visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N.
