Barbara J. McGawn

Barbara J. McGawn, 92, of Noblesville, Indiana formerly of New Carlisle, Indiana passed away Thursday, April 17, 2025, in Ascension St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis, Indiana.  Barbara was born on August 9, 1932 in Terre Haute, Indiana.  She retired in 1995 from the University of Notre Dame, where she was employed as a Secretary for the Student Union Board. Previously she had been a Branch Manager at Fayette Bank and Trust in Connersville, Indiana and had been employed in Customer Service at the National Bank in South Bend.  On September 3, 1949, in Connersville, Indiana she married Bobby Gillum who preceded her in death on March 13, 1978. On December 28, 1985 she married Donald McGawn who preceded her in death on May 22, 2004.  She was also preceded in death by her parents, John W. and Tressa (Wilson) Scott; her son Michael Gillum; her step-daughter, Mary McGawn; and her granddaughter, Stephanie Gillum.  Barbara is survived by her son, Gary (Janine) Gillum of Easton, Pennsylvania; daughter-in-law Marcia Gillum of Carmel, Indiana; three step-daughters, Bonnie (Charles) DeMeyer of New Carlisle, Indiana, Kathy (Kenneth) Sherry of Noblesville, Indiana and Donna (Randy) Vermillion of New Carlisle, Indiana; three grandchildren, Sean Gillum, Braden Gillum and Lesley Eaton; and eight step-grandchildren, Donald DeMeyer, Daniel DeMeyer, Margaret Buss, Kristen Sherry, Kevin Sherry, Karen Boschee, Ryan Vermillion and Melissa Wise and 17 great-grandchildren.  Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 19, 2025 in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, Indiana.  Burial will take place at a later date in Dale Cemetery, Connersville, Indiana. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Monday in the funeral home.  Barbara was a member of the St. Joseph County Republican Association and the New Carlisle, Indiana United Methodist Church.  Memorial Contributions should be directed to the American Cancer Society.
