Barbara A. Kowalski

Barbara A. Kowalski, 93, of South Bend, passed away peacefully on Friday October 25, 2024 at the Ernestine Raclin House, Mishawaka.  She was born June 5, 1931, in South Bend, to the late John and Mary Plotnicki and was a lifelong area resident.  On April 25, 1953 she married Ray Kowalski, who preceded her in death on January 25, 1994.  She is survived by her children, Gregg (Carol) Kowalski of New Carlisle, Deb Krueger of Granger, IN, Mike (Mary Ann) Kowalski of South Bend and Mary Claire Kowalski (John Grill) of Union, MI, 9 nine grandchildren, Stevie, C.J., Trae, Kristine, Kaitlin, Ray, Christy, Katie and Amy, and nine great-grandchildren.  Barbara worked as a Function Coordinator in the Development Office at the University of Notre Dame for over 25 years, before retiring in December 1999. She volunteered at St. Augustine Soup Kitchen, the Center for the Homeless, Reigns of Life and St. Joseph Regional Medical Center. Barbara enjoyed winters in North Palm Beach Florida, where she enjoyed teaching water aerobics at the Shore Court Pool. Her summers were spent at Baldwin Lake in Union, MI, with her family. Barbara was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be dearly missed by all. Visitation will be from 12 to 2 p.m. Tuesday October 29, 2024 at the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart on the campus of the University of Notre Dame. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery, South Bend.
