Barbara A. Grimm

Barbara A. Grimm, 90, of South Bend, passed away of a sudden illness on Sunday August 9, 2026 .  She was born on April 1, 1936, in South Bend, to the late Roy Joseph and Eleanor (Skarupinski) Underly.  Along with her parents she was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Grimm and by a brother, David Underly.  On August 27, 1955, as Barbara A. Underly, she married Reginald N. Grimm, who survives. They were married for 70 years.  Also surviving are her two daughters, Pamela Chambers of Scottsdale, AZ and Katrina (Tom) McGovern of Granger, IN, her two sons, Michael (Lynn) Grimm of Pagosa Springs, CO and Scott (Jennifer) Grimm of Mishawaka, IN; 13 grandchildren, Benjamin Murphy, Kristi (Michael) Iaquinta, Coreen  (Marek Crabbs) Murphy , Kierstin (Jeff) Eifler, Mitchell (Janell) Miller, Chandler (Kala) Miller, John McGovern, Collin (Heather) McGovern, Troy (Maria) McGovern,Taylor and Madison Chambers, Leo and Eleanor Grimm and 15 great grandchildren and 2 on the way. Also survived by a brother, Thomas (Charlene) Underly of Evanston  IL.  Mrs. Grimm worked as Secretary for the Mishawaka City Sewer Department.  She was a 1954 Graduate of South Bend Central High School, a Parishioner of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, where she served in the Rosary Society and also volunteered at The Ronald McDonald House.  Barbara was a wonderful dancer and taught dance class for 35 years. She started the gymnastics program at the Mishawaka YMCA. She was an avid runner and won countless sunburst races for her age group.She loved horses and barrel racing at the 4H Fair. She told many stories about her horse named Black Beauty. She also worked for years with the Mishawaka Republican Women’s Group. She owned a successful bridal shop called Formal Elegance in downtown Mishawaka. She loved to travel with her husband and was totally devoted to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She was a woman who found joy in the simple, beautiful things in her life. Her home was always spotless, her gardens were lovingly tended, and her heart was always full of love for her family. Her children were her entire world, and being their mother was her greatest joy and proudest accomplishment. She loved to entertain and had a special gift for making every gathering feel warm, welcoming, and memorable. Holidays at her home were something everyone looked forward to - filled with laughter, beautiful decorations, delicious food and traditions that will be cherished for years to come. And of course, no gathering was complete without one of her amazing homemade pies. She leaves behind a legacy of love, family, hospitality, and countless memories. She will be deeply missed and forever loved by all who were fortunate to know her. You will live in our hearts forever Barb, Mom, Gigi. A visitation for Barbara will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday August 13, 2026 at the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, where a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 3:30 p.m.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday August 14, 2026 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, where friends may visit for one hour prior to the Mass.  Burial will follow in Saint Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 2822 Corpus Christi Drive, South Bend, IN  46628 or to the Ronald McDonald House Michiana, 610 N.
