Barbara Schmidt Obituary

Barbara Ann Schmidt, 80 of New Carlisle, Indiana passed away peacefully on Friday, January 24, 2025 at Hamilton Grove New Carlisle, IN.

Barbara was born on April 19, 1944 in LaPorte, Indiana to the late Lester and Esther (Cawby) Gale.  On February 5, 1966, she married the love of her life, Dean M. Schmidt.  Barb is also survived by one daughter, Lisa (Adam Rogers) Barnaby of North Liberty, Indiana and one son, Dean (Tracy) Schmidt of Litchfield, Arizona, four grandchildren, Michael (Falishia) Wind, Marcus (Dawn) Wind, Alexandria (Alec) Hixenbaugh, Grace Schmidt.  Four great grandchildren, Benjamin, Nolan, Sawyer and Skylar.   One brother, George Gale of Vero Beach, Florida.  Barbara was also preceded in death by one brother Wayne Gale and one grandson Maxwell Barnaby.

Barbara graduated from North Judson High School.  She worked as a head cook for Hamilton Grove Nursing home and Lemans Academy where she shared her love of cooking and helping others.  Barb was also co-owner of Schmidt Landscaping.   Barbara loved making people happy with her beautiful flower arrangements.  Later in life, Barbara and Dean moved to Cleveland Tennessee to become property managers for Broadstreet United Methodist Church.  Together, they ran daily operations of Johnston Woods, a several acre church retreat.  Barbara enjoyed working at the retreat, where she quickly made friends and embraced her church family.  Barb was the happiest spending time with her family.  She was our biggest cheerleader when it came to watching her grandchildren play sports.

A celebration of life is being planned for April 2025.  Memorial contributions may be made to Center for Hospice in Barbara’s honor.  Online condolences may be left at www.kaniewski.com
