August J. VanWanzeele

August J. VanWanzeele, 85, of New Carlisle, IN, passed away on Thursday September 30, 2021 at Northwest Health-LaPorte in LaPorte, IN.  He was born on October 9, 1935 in South Bend to the late Eugene A. and Magdeline (DeNeve) VanWanzeele and was a lifelong area resident.  On October 27, 1956, in Holy Family Church, South Bend, he married Nancy Asbury, who survives.  Also surviving are his daughter, Mary Ellen Smith of South Bend; his two sons, Michael (Penny) VanWanzeele and Paul (Lina) VanWanzeele, both of New Carlisle; 12 grandchildren; Jason (Flor) Beyer, David (Jessica) VanWanzeele, Chris (Kristen) Beyer, Amanda (Jim) Schwingendorf, Scott (Stephanie) VanWanzeele, Kate Theodorovich, Bruce VanWanzeele, Jessica (Corey) Paulson, Craig Ebersole, Jr. Nate Tompach and Connor Tompach and 18 great-grandchildren; Ali, Zander, Ryder, Baxter and Ellie-Mae VanWanzeele, Carlos, Jason II, Kaleb, Payton and Adeline Beyer, Corbin, Brynn and Levi Schwingendorf, Dyana O'Shea, Danica, Sarah and Ms. Cory Paulson and Isla Tompach.  August was a lifelong dairy farmer who was still active with his family.  He was married for 65 years, was a hard worker....happiest working his fields, driving tractors and his combine.  He and Mom met when showing steers at the St. Joseph County Fair.  He enjoyed going to the fair and watching his family show their animals.  He loved snowmobiling, county fairs, farm auctions, Bonnie Doon's and banana splits.  In his later years he enjoyed his grandkids and great-grandkids.  A private family graveside service will be held.
