Ann Rospopo Obituary

Ann Rospopo, 83, of South Bend, passed away at Hospice House at 5:05 PM Saturday after a brief illness.  She was loved dearly by her family and friends.  Ann was born on June 27, 1937 to Peter and Genevieve (Grzezinski) Rafalski. They preceded her in death.

She graduated from Washington High School in 1955 and on October 1, 1960 she married her sweetheart, Raymond Rospopo, who also preceded her in death on January 21, 2015. She is survived by two daughters, Cynthia (Terry) Vukovits and Patty (John) Tomaszewski. She loved her grandchildren, Raymond (Lauren) Molchan and Kathleen Molchan, Linda Tomaszewski, Kelly Whitman and Megan (fiancé Dakota Somers) Tomaszewski, and Peter Vukovits. She enjoyed her great grandchildren, Matthew, Isaiah, Izaak, Camden, Cory, and Cohen. Ann also had one loving sister, Marcia (Don) Wiseman and her sister-in-law, Evelyn (Gary) Weldy and many nieces and nephews, and her life-long friend, Sharon. Ann was lucky to find love again with her companion, Joe Bykowski. They made each other very happy. Joe and his family loved and were loved very much by Ann.

After 25 years of service, Ann retired from Indiana University, South Bend and enjoyed an active life, reading, crocheting and sewing.  Many family members and friends have an afghan or baby blanket she made.  She also made afghans for the babies in Memorial’s NICU and prayer shawls for cancer patients at Memorial.  She was a member of the Altar-Rosary Society of the former St. Mary's of the Assumption Catholic Church where she and Ray were also active with many events at the church. One of Ann’s most favorite pastimes was going to the various casinos with her good friends and Joe.  Ann enjoyed traveling with friends and family as often as possible. She was always up for a good time; especially with Poncho and Toni Jozwiak, Chuck and Shirley Klein and Dick and LuAnn Baraso. After the closure of St. Mary’s, Ann rejoined her home parish of St. Casimir and was a staple at the Saturday evening mass.

Friends may meet with the family on Tuesday, April 20, 2021 from 2:00-8:00 PM at Kaniewski Funeral Home at 3545 Bendix Dr. in South Bend where a parish rosary will be recited at 6:00 PM along with the Married Men's members. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 21 at 10:00 AM at St. Casimir Roman Catholic Church, 1308 Dunham St. with Rev. Ryan Pietrocarlo, CSC officiating. Entombment will take place at the Resurrection Gardens of St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Casimir Church or the Center for Hospice Care, 22579 Old US 20, Elkhart, IN 46516.

Ann’s loving ways will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of being a part of her life.  Rest well, sweet soul.
