Winifred A. “Winnie” Libertowski, 67, of South Bend, Indiana passed away at 12:15 a.m. Friday, January 18, 2019, in Healthwin Specalized Care Facility. Winnie was born on January 31, 1951 in South Bend, to Wilfred “Lefty” and Genevieve (Harden) Rightley. She retired on August 10, 2018 from the St. Joseph County Assessor’s Office. Prior to her employment with St. Joseph County Assessor’s Office, Winnie had worked in the banking industry in downtown South Bend for over 35 years. She had also worked at the University of Notre Dame Bookstore. On June 11, 1977 she married Gerald Libertowski, who preceded her in death on January 31, 2010. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Patricia Rightley. Winnie is survived by her daughter, Paula (Nathan) Montgomery of Carmel, Indiana; her son, Daniel (Amy) Libertowski of Niles, Michigan; five grandchildren, Noah and Tobin Montgomery and Colt, Sadie, and Beau Libertowski; her step-daughter, Cheryl (Libertowski) Tucker; and her five siblings, Judith Rice, Thomas (Rubye) Rightley, Mary Cox, Timothy (Becki) Rightley and Kathleen (Joe) Dawson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 23, 2019 in Holy Cross Church. A visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, where a rosary will be prayed at 4:30 p.m. Winnie was a 1969 graduate of St. Joseph High School and a member of Holy Cross Parish.
