Thomas A. Balukiewicz, 80, of South Bend, passed away on Friday August 10, 2018 at Hospice House, South Bend. He was born on May 1, 1938, in South Bend, IN, to the late Anthony and Anna (Wieger) Balukiewicz. On June 6, 1959 he married Charlene M. Pinter, who preceded him in death on November 2, 2014. He is survived by his two daughters, Karen S. (David) Ogden of Granger, IN and Kathryn M (Michael) Highland of Mishawaka; his grandson, Michael D. Ogden; his niece, and many cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Nicholas J. Russell and his sister, Rita Dillon. Tom retired as a Captain from the South Bend Fire Department after 22 years and from the United States Postal Service after 16 years. Tom was a 1956 graduate of Washington High School, and was a member of the Sacred Heart Parish, where he served as a Hospitality Minister. He was a long time volunteer at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center since 2001, was an avid golfer, traveler, and Notre Dame fan, working as a football stadium usher from 1993 until present. He was also a member of the International Studebaker Drivers Club. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday August 13, 2018 at the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Dr., South Bend. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday August 14, 2018 at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, Notre Dame. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery.
