Sandra K. “Sandy” Machowiak, 71, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 2:15 p.m. Monday, December 4, 2017 at Hospice House in South Bend.

She was born on December 12, 1945 to the late Thaddeus and June (Longbrake) Lewandowski in South Bend, IN, and was a lifelong resident.  Along with her parents; she was also preceded in death by two sisters; and three brothers.

Sandy graduated in 1963 from Washington High School in South Bend.

She worked as a Teacher’s Aide at Corpus Christi School for several years, where she also helped start their pre-school.

On June 10, 1967, as Sandra K. Lewandowski, she married James R. “Jim” Machowiak at St. Matthew Cathedral in South Bend, IN.

Sandy is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Jim Machowiak of South Bend, IN; three daughters, Michaelene “Micki” (husband Jamie) Galwas-Machowiak of Niles, MI; Lori (husband Jim) Jester of South Bend, IN; Julie (husband David) Wells of Niles, MI; a son, J.R. (wife Amber) Machowiak of South Bend, IN; six grandchildren, Melyssa Jester; Abigail (husband Kristofer) Guerrero; Noah Galwas; Jimmy Jester; Isaac Machowiak; Adaline Machowiak; two sisters, Terri (husband Willie) Garza of South Bend, IN; Sharon (husband Garry) Beidinger of New Carlisle, IN; and two brothers, Ray (wife Laurie) Lewandowski of South Bend, IN; and Mark Lewandowski of South Bend, IN.

Sandy was a member of St. Joseph Parish in South Bend, IN.  She was a Master Crafter; and was known as the “Scrapbooking Queen.”

Funeral Services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, December 7, 2017 at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN, with Rev. Kevin Russeau, C.S.C. officiating.  Visitation will follow the funeral service until 7:00 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.  Cremation will follow.
