Robert N. Herendeen, 84, known by most as 'Doc' in the car business, passed away at 10:58pm on Sunday, August, 5, 2018. Doc lived most of his life in South Bend, Indiana, but had moved to The Bickford, in Carmel, Indiana.
Born on July 18, 1934, in Geneva, Ohio, to Frank and Josephine (Kroflic) Herendeen, Robert had an older brother, James, and a twin brother, Richard. All preceded him in death.
While serving in the United States Air Force, Robert met Theresa A. 'Terri' Herendeen. On December 27, 1958, while home on leave, Bob and Terri were married at Holy Cross Catholic Church, in South Bend. The following years brought three children: Anne (Paul) Viemann, of Cicero, Indiana, Robert (Valerie) Herendeen, of Leesburg, Indiana, and Edward (Melanie) Herendeen, of Niles, Michigan. Through their children, Bob leaves behind nine grandchildren: Elizabeth Boaz, Emily (Trent) Schmale, Alexander (Kathleen) Boaz, Nichole Herendeen, Andrew J. Herendeen, Christopher Herendeen, Amy Herendeen, Jason Viemann, and Lauren Viemann, as well as one great-grandchild, Maximilian Schmale.
A visitation and Mass celebrating and honoring the life of Robert 'Doc' Herendeen will take place on Saturday, August 11, 2018, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 10:00am to 11:45am and the Mass will begin at 12:00pm. The burial will follow at Highland Cemetery, where members of the United States Air Force will conduct Military Services.
Robert was not only a USAF veteran, he was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. His career, selling automobiles, began in 1965, working at local dealerships including Gates Chevy World, Navarre Cadillac, and Joe Hayden Pontiac. He joined the Greater Mishawaka Auto Auction, in 1990, where he retired after 20 years. Aside from working with people, Doc also enjoyed golfing, working in his yard, animals, and helping others.
