Robert Bella, 88, of South Bend, passed away on Wednesday January 16, 2019 at Memorial Hospital, South Bend. He was born on July 22, 1930, in South Bend, to the late John and Blanche (Rachwalski) Bella and was a lifelong area resident. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Rosemary (Golichowski); two daughters, Lynn (David) Ferguson of Spring, TX and Robin (Keith) Stillson of South Bend; a son, Brian (Donna) Bella of South Bend; six grandchildren, Lindsay (Greg) Latkowski, Zach (Courtney) Bella, John (Cortney) Bella, Brooke Ferguson and Morgan and Jordan Bueter; five great-grandchildren, Payton, Kara, Zander, Zane and Elliott; a brother, Ron Bella of South Bend; and three sisters-in-law, Lorraine Nowak, Ruth Holewczynski and Dorothy Golichowski. Robert retired in 2002 after working as a Police Officer/Detective for the South Bend Police Department for 28 years and the Notre Dame Police Department for 17 years. He was United States Army Veteran and a member of the American Legion Pulaski Post #357, the FOP and Holy Family Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday January 20, 2019 at the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Dr., South Bend, where a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 5 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday January 21, 2019 at Holy Family Church, 56405 S. Mayflower Rd., South Bend, where friends may visit for one hour prior to the Mass. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.
