Richard B. Lasch, 83, of South Bend, passed away on Thursday, November 15, 2018 in his home. He was born on November 6, 1935, in South Bend, to the late Rolland and Effie (Milliken) Lasch. On June 20, 1954, he married Darlene (Bentzler) who survives. Also surviving are his daughters, Debbie Cowen of South Bend and Denise Shepherd of Buchanan, MI; a son, Daniel Lasch of South Bend; grandchildren, Sarah, Adam and Eva Shepherd; a brother, Larry (Donna) Lasch of South Bend and by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Eugene Lasch and a son-in-law, Vincent Shepherd. Dick was a truck driver for Redi-Froz/Scot Lad for 25 years before retiring in October, 1992. He was a 1953 graduate of New Carlisle High School, where he played saxophone and clarinet for all four years. After graduation, he played in a dance band for several years. He has enjoyed the friendships he has made and kept over the years, and was part of the regular gatherings they held. Dick transported Motor Homes for 37 trips to Anchorage, Alaska with ABC Motor Home Rental. He was a lifetime member of the Chain-O-Lakes Conservation Club. He was in the Naval Reserves, was a volunteer at the Warren Twp. Fire Department for 20 years, a member of Lydick United Methodist Church and the St. Joe Club. Dick was an avid collector of fishing lures and he enjoyed wintering in Spring Hill and Brooksville, Florida, for many years with his wife. His grandchildren were the light of his life. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, November 18, 2018 at the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Dr., South Bend. Funeral services for Dick will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at the Kaniewski Funeral Home, where friends may visit one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, South Bend.
