Phillip James Kowalski (PJ), age 54, died Thursday November 9, 2017. Phil was born on April 20, 1963 in South Bend, Indiana. As a lifelong resident, he graduated from Saint Joseph High School and received his Bachelor’s degree from Ball State University where he was an active member of Delta Tau Delta. He was currently self-employed as a day trader.
He is survived by daughter, Taylor, sisters, Jenny (Bruce) Micinski and Beth Camp, brother, Jamey (partner, Jim Long) Kowalski, nephews, Nathan Micinski, Cody Camp, and Connor Camp, and niece, Caitlin Camp.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Cleo Kowalski, and father, James Kowalski.
He was a devoted father, whose main focus was loving and supporting his daughter in every way that he could. He was an avid softball fan, continuing to volunteer at Chet Waggoner Little League even after his daughter had gone on to college. Umpiring softball and refereeing volleyball games filled his free time. His faith was his guiding force, and he was an active parishioner at Christ the King Church as a lector, Eucharistic Minister, and Bible Study member.
Visitation will be Tuesday November 14 at Kaniewski Funeral Home on Bendix Drive from 5:00 until 8:00 with a rosary at the conclusion of the visitation. On Wednesday there will be an additional hour of visitation at Christ the King Catholic Church, 52473 SR 933, South Bend, Indiana from 10:00 until 11:00 with a funeral mass immediately following.
