Nancy J. Balderas

Nancy J. (Hoofnagle) Balderas, 72, of South Bend, passed away Saturday, January 6, 2018 at home, with her family by her side.

She was born on March 18, 1945 in South Bend, IN to the late Robert and Helen (Rose) Hoofnagle.

Nancy is survived by her five children, Ricky A. Smith (North Liberty), Marilyn J. (Smith) Dawson (Jeffery), (South Bend), Carolyn A. Smith (South Bend), Alfredo Balderas, Jr. (Cheryl), (South Bend) and Juan M. Balderas (Lana), (Niles), eleven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, a sister, Kay (Hoofnagle) Markiewicz and a brother, Robert Hoofnagle (Terrie).

She was preceded in death by a sister, Sharon (Hoofnagle) Dombrowski.

Nancy retired in 2007 from the University of Notre Dame after 30 years of service in their Building Services Department.

Due to health issues over several years, which limited her activities, Nancy did enjoy playing Skipbo and Scrabble with her sister Sharon.  She also enjoyed watching the Hallmark Channel and the Game Show Network Channel and doing Word Search Puzzels.

Nancy will dearly be missed by her family and all who knew her.

A Memorial Service with her cremains will be held on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive. A visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Wednesday  in the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers the family request memorial contributions be made to the Hospice Foundation, 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka.
