Mary C. Feikes

Mary C. Feikes, 81, of New Carlisle, Indiana passed away Sunday, August 12, 2018 at Memorial Hospital, South Bend, Indiana from complications of Alzheimer's Disease.  Mary was born on February 2, 1937 in Fair Haven, Vermont to Ernest and Delfina (Pionfetti) Calvi.  She graduated valedictorian from Fair Haven High School.  In Burlington, Vermont, she went to the Jeanne Mance School of Nursing and graduated in 1957, again as valedictorian.   In 1955 she met Edward Feikes, whom she married in 1957.  She moved to Indiana where she raised a family and worked as a nurse in the offices of Dr. Kepler and then Dr. Kelsey for a total of 30 years.  Mary is survived by her three children—Steve (Chris) Feikes of Syracuse, New York; Gina (Jerry) Hans of New Carlisle, Indiana; and Matt (Sheila) Feikes of Rolling Meadows, Illinois, by her 7 grandchildren and by her sister, Geraldine Foster of Fair Haven, Vermont. Mary loved nature and country & western music and is fondly remembered by her former patients.  Mary was a parishioner at St. Augustine Catholic Church in South Bend, Indiana. The Feikes family would like to think the staff and especially the nurses on 10s and Dr. Michelle Thompson for their excellent care. Visitation will be Saturday, August 18 from 10:00 a.m. -12:00 p.m. EST at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 201 S. Filbert Street in New Carlisle and again from 2:30 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at St. Augustine Church, 1501 W. Washington Street in South Bend followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, which will be celebrated at 3:00 p.m. Kaniewski Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
