Martha M. Hosinski, age 99, of South Bend, Indiana, died January 7, 2019.
Mrs. Hosinski was born to William G. and Louise J. Mitten on December 28, 1919 in Winthrop, Massachusetts. She graduated from Regis College, Weston, Massachusetts in 1940 with a Bachelor of Science degree. On April 11, 1944, then an Ensign in the U.S. Navy, she married William A. Hosinski, a Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Air Corps. They moved to South Bend, Indiana, his hometown, on January 1, 1946, where he practiced law and became a judge of the St. Joseph County Superior Court. He pre-deceased her in 2002.
She is survived by five children: Anne H. Madden of Portland, Oregon, Claire H. Sanford of Camden, Maine, Paul S. Hosinski of South Bend, Peter M. Hosinski of Stamford, Connecticut, and John S. Hosinski of South Bend; sixteen grandchildren; and twenty-one great-grandchildren.
Martha was for eighteen years a member and President of the St. Joseph County Welfare Board, and also a past president of the Christ Child Society and the former St. Joseph County Bar Association Auxiliary. She also served on the Board of Portage Manor and was a charter member of the Indiana Lawyers' Commission. Her other interests were with the South Bend Duplicate Bridge Club and the Elbel 9-Hole Golf League.
Visitation will be held at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 North Bendix Drive, South Bend, on Friday, January 11, 2019, from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m, with the Rosary prayed at 3:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph Chapel, Holy Cross College, on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Highland Cemetery.
