Lugayila ZT Lukuba Obituary

Homecoming Service for Lugayila Zakaria Tito Lukuba

Lord Lugayila Zakaria Tito Lukuba passed away on Thursday, July 25, 2019, peacefully at home, surrounded by his family.  Lukuba was born on December 21, 1943 in Kolandoto Hospital in Shinyanga, Tanzania, East Africa to the late Tito Nkanga Lukuba and Teresa Zakaria Balele Lukuba.

From 1952 to 1960, Lukuba attended Nyakabungo Primary School in Mwanza, Tanzania where he completed his primary education. Lukuba attended Musoma Alliance School from 1965 to 1966 before attending Mkwawa High School. Lukuba was one of the only two students of Tanzania to receive a national scholarship to further his university studies in the United States. Lukuba was an alumni of the Physics department at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville where he obtained his Master’s in Physics in 1973.  Following his graduation, he pursued a career in Systems Engineering and worked at NCR Corporation in Cambridge, OH before working at Bendix Allied Signals in South Bend, IN.

Lukuba’s hobbies included soccer, racquetball, tennis, music, dancing and telling jokes. On any given Saturday, you could always find Lukuba with tools in his hand. As a joke, he would always claim to be the “Jack of all trades and master of none”. Lukuba was also the president of the African Association of Michiana, where he was known for hosting international parties to welcome in foreign students, getting them acclimated to living and studying in the U.S.

Lukuba was survived by his wife, Pendo Gasabile Lukuba and their children: Tia Marie Nwaogwugwu, Mongo Lukuba, Kulwa Lukuba, Dotto Lukuba, Shija Lukuba, and Muhoja Lukuba. He was also survived by his grandchildren: Thomas White, Brett White, Ayrial White, and Jamari Heim Sr. along with several great grandchildren.

Lukuba is survived by his brother, Jeremiah Tito Lukuba. He is also survived by his sister, Jessica Benedictor Nigo and a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Shija Lukuba, Muhoja Lukuba, Magilu Mashibe, Dominic Mutalemwa, Kulwa Lukuba, and Dr. Innocent Nwaogwugwu.
