James W. Ebersole, 74, of New Carlisle, IN, passed away at 8:03 p.m. Thursday, July 5, 2018 in his home, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on August 19, 1943 to Wilbur and Violet (Earls) Ebersole in LaPorte, IN, and has lived in New Carlisle and Rolling Prairie most of his life. James was preceded in death by his father, Wilbur Ebersole; and a brother, LeRoy Ebersole.
Jim was retired from Bethlehem Steel in Burns Harbor, IN, where he worked as a Crane Operator for over 30 years.
On July 18, 1981, he married Christy L. Wolf in South Bend, IN.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of nearly 37 years, Christy L. Ebersole of New Carlisle, IN; his mother, Violet Ebersole of Sebring, FL; three daughters, Susan (Bryan) Kniola of Fortville, IN; Tina (Jason) Colglazier of New Carlisle, IN; Wendy (Jim) Surgeon of Fish Lake, IN; five grandchildren, Jasmine (Mike) McMurtrey, Brooke Colglazier, Hunter Kniola, Jacob Colglazier, Paige Surgeon; one brother, Larry Ebersole of Lake Placid, FL; one sister-in-law, Marty Ebersole of Sebring, FL; and several nieces and nephews.
Jim was a member of the First Christian Church of Rolling Prairie; New Carlisle Lions Club; and American Legion Post 297 in New Carlisle, IN. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving from 1962-1965 in Germany. Jim belonged to the 101st Airborne Division as a Paratrooper. Jim was an avid golfer, and loved to play basketball and bowl. He loved his family and spending time with his family and friends. Jim’s family sends a special thank you to Jim’s nurse, Cynthia Kitt for her loving care and dedication to Jim and his family.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. EST on Sunday, July 8, 2018 at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN and also from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. EST on Monday, July 9, 2018 at the First Christian Church of Rolling Prairie, 113 W. Michigan Street, Rolling Prairie, IN.
Funeral Services will follow at 11:30 a.m. EST Monday, July 9, 2018 at the First Christian Church of Rolling Prairie. Burial will follow in Mount Pleasant Cemetery in South Bend, IN, where Military Honors will take place.
