Jack D. Wagner Obituary

Jack D. “Zip” Wagner, 89, of New Carlisle, passed away on Wednesday May 16, 2018 in his home of 63 years. He was born on July 29, 1928, in LaPorte, IN, to Glen and Carrie (Benson) Wagner.  He graduated from New Carlisle High School in 1946 and served in the US Army in Germany as a radio operator. On February 6, 1954 he married Betty Haas and they enjoyed 57 years together.  She preceded him in death on February 16, 2011.  Jack is survived by his daughters, Carol (Robert "Skip") Miller and Sandra (Steven) Mitton, both of Traverse City, MI; his son Barry (Lisa) Wagner of New Carlisle; four grandchildren, Eric Miller of Chicago,IL; Brett (Sarah Ault) Miller of Portland, OR; Samantha Wagner of West Lafayette, IN and Alexis Wagner of Chicago.  Jack was also preceded in death by an infant son Theodore, his sister Betty and her husband Earl Adnson of New Carlisle.  Jack retired in 1982 after working 36 years as a welder for Allis Chalmers in LaPorte.  He was an avid bowler and golfer for much of his life - you'd find him Wednesday nights at the Black Cat and weekends at Whispering Pines. Later winters were spent at Crystal Lake Club in Avon Park, FL.  He instilled a love of cards and games in his family members and was known for his brilliant sense of humor. Jack was a member of the American Legion Post #297 in New Carlisle for over 60 years.  No viewing is planned. A family graveside service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the New Carlisle Community Church Food Pantry (PO Box 155, New Carlisle, IN 46552). To send online condolences, please visit www.kaniewski.com.
