Henry Bernhardt Froning, Jr. age 92, died July 7 at his residence in Holy Cross Village at Notre Dame.  Hank was born January 27, 1925 in South Bend, IN to Henry Bernhardt and Mary Mildred (Cain) Froning.  He attended Central High School and enlisted in the Army Air Corps during WW II.  He married Constance Julia Luczak May 3, 1952 at St. Patrick’s Church in South Bend, IN.  He worked at US Rubber in Mishawaka, IN before moving to Sturgis Michigan in 1967 where he worked for the Kirsch Company until his retirement in 1990.  Hank and Connie moved back to the South Bend area and were members of St Pius X Parish in Granger, IN.  He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and his brothers and sisters; Joseph Fendall Froning, Mary Mildred Herrly, Laura Cecelia Parkinson, and Edward Cain Froning.

 

Hank leaves behind his seven children, Melinda Wiebush (James) of  Kooskia, ID, Henry “Barney” Froning (Kim), III of Sturgis, MI, Rebecca Kirby (Jeffrey) of Elkhart, IN, Kurt (Linda) Froning of Sturgis, MI, Regina Julien of Warrenville, IL, Mary Froning of South Bend, IN and Constance White of Middleton, WI, 14 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He leaves behind his caretakers and fellow residents at Holy Cross Village.

 

Hank was always a kind and gentle man. He will be missed by all who knew him.

 

Visitation will be Tuesday, July 11, 10:00 am, followed by the celebration of a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am at Our Lady of Holy Cross Chapel at Dujarie House, Notre Dame IN.  In lieu of flowers, in memory of Connie, memorial contributions may be directed to alz.org.
