Helen (Grennan) Johnston

Helen Johnston, 79, a long time resident of Rolling Prairie, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, April 10, in her home. Helen was born on September 1, 1937 in Streator, Illinois, the daughter of the late Helen and Thomas Grennan. Helen grew up in Streator, Illinois where she met Albert E. Johnston and married in 1967, marking their 50th wedding anniversary this April. Helen and Al moved to New Carlisle and settled in Rolling Prairie over 45 years ago. Together they raised a family of four children; Sean, Michael, Carey, and Jennie. Helen held a deep commitment and dedication to education and worked in the New Prairie School Corporation for over 25 years. Helen is survived by her husband Al Johnston and their four children and their spouses; Michael and Sarah of Waxhaw, NC; Carey and Bryan of Virginia Beach, VA; Jennie and Jeff of Kokomo, IN; and Sean of South Bend, IN and their beautiful grandchildren: Kirsten, Thomas, Evie, Jacob, Sammy, Morgan, David, Molly, and Daniel. She is survived by her sisters, Mary Poruba and Bobbie Koral of Streator, IL and sister-in-law Cherie Grennan of Streator, IL. She is preceded in death by brothers Thomas Grennan, Jr., and Leo Grennan. Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 17, at Kaniewski Funeral Homes in New Carlisle, IN. Visitation is from 12:00-1:00 pm EST followed by services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN.
