Georgian M. Vargo, 88, of South Bend, IN, passed away on Friday, April 14, 2017, following an illness.

She was born on September 8, 1928 to the late Walter and Pearl (Bonczynski) Wroblewski in South Bend, IN, and was a lifelong resident.   Along with her parents; she was also preceded in death by her husband, Frank S. Vargo; a daughter, Rosanne Nye; a grandson, William Passwater, Jr.; two sons-in-law, William H.G. Passwater; Henry Nye; three sisters, Delphine Arendt, Elaine Jurgonski, and Rosemarie Polonka; and three brothers-in-law, Ray Arendt, Edwin Jurgonski, and Fred Polonka.

Georgian graduated in 1946 from Washington High School. 

On November 6, 1948, as Georgian M. Wroblewski, she married Frank S. Vargo at St. Casimir Catholic Church in South Bend, IN.

She retired in September 1993 from Target in South Bend, IN, where she worked for 20 years as a cashier.

Georgian is survived by her three daughters, Suzanne (Marc) Raymond of South Bend, IN; Linda Passwater of South Bend, IN; Francine (Rick) Szymanski of South Bend, IN; three grandchildren, Timothy (Adrienne Beal) Passwater; Angela (John) Burgess; and Andrew Raymond, all of South Bend, IN; a granddaughter-in-law, Heather Stangland Passwater of North Carolina; five great-grandchildren, Lyla and William Passwater, both of North Carolina; Vivianna and Franklin Passwater, both of South Bend, IN; Abigail Burgess of South Bend, IN; and several nieces and nephews.

Georgian was a member of Corpus Christi Parish.  She enjoyed fishing, spending time in nature, her pets, and playing cards with her family, and enjoyed cross-stitching baby blankets for her great-grandchildren. But most of all, she loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and family.

Visitation will be from 3:30 – 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN, where a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 4:00 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, with Rev. Daryl Rybicki officiating.  Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.
