George Washington Hoover, 100, of South Bend, Indiana passed away on Saturday July 21, 2018 at Hamilton Grove in New Carlisle, Indiana. George was born on October 3, 1917 to the late John and Millie (Jackson) Hoover. On August 24, 1940 in South Bend, Indiana he married Marcea Baer who passed away on June 3, 2003. George is survived three sons Tom (Ruth) Hoover of Phoenix, Arizona, Jerry (Kathy) Hoover of New Carlisle, Indiana, and Rick (Karen) Hoover of St. Charles, Illinois; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Along with his parents he was predeceased by three sisters: Estella, Jane, and Vera; three brothers: Wilbur, Edward, and Waldo. George was a member of First United Methodist Church and a volunteer of the Church’s soup Kitchen. He was a member of the South Bend Masonic Lodge # 45/294. George volunteered a lot of his time at The Leighton Center visiting Hospital patients. A visitation will take place on Tuesday July 24, at the Kaniewski Funeral Home 3545 N. Bendix Dr, South Bend, IN from 6:30 pm until 8:30 with a Masonic service at 7:30. On Wednesday July 25, at the funeral home a visitation will take place from 10:00 until 11:30 am followed by a funeral service. Entombment will follow in Riverview Cemetery.
