Evelyn M. Carlson

Evelyn M. Carlson, 94, of South Bend, Indiana passed away at 8:15 p.m. Thursday, April 12, 2018 in Healthwin Specialized Care Facility. Evelyn was born on November 22, 1923 in South Bend to Frank L. and Bernice (Maciejewski) Banicki, and was a lifelong resident.  She had been employed at St. Joseph Hospital as nurse.  She had also taught nursing at Ivy Tech; was a home health care nurse; and was a nurse as St. Mary’s Convent.  On June 29, 1946 she married James D. Carlson, who preceded her in death on January 6, 2002. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Jill O’Neill; her sister, Tessie Swartz; and three brothers, Eugene, Frank, and Irvin Banicki.   Evelyn is survived by her children, Jeffrey D. Carlson of Jacksonville, Florida, Jennifer Ryan of Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin, and Jody Carlson of Indianapolis, Indiana; five grandchildren, Denis Ryan, Thomas (Trish) Ryan, Jessica (Rusty) Morgan, James D. Carlson, Janina (Bobby) Lentz; nine great-grandchildren, Aidan Ryan, Liam Ryan, Piper, Ryan, Finn Ryan, Trixie Ryan, Lily Morgan, Henry Morgan, Sydney Lentz, and Grady Lentz; her sister, Janine (Quinto) Sqyadroni of Mishawaka, Indiana; and by several nieces and nephews.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 16, 2018 in St. John the Baptist Church.  Private entombment will take place at Highland Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Monday in the church.  Evelyn was a member of St. John the Baptist Parish and an over 50 year member of the American Legion Post #357. The family wishes to thank the nursing staff at Healthwin Specialized Care for the loving care of our mother.  Memorial Contributions may be directed to Healthwin Specialized Care Facility.  Kaniewski Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
