Ethel M. Hooten, 96, of New Carlisle, Indiana passed away at 3:22 a.m. Saturday, January 19, 2019, in Miller's Merry Manor. Ethel was born on December 27, 1922 in Wakarusa, Indiana to Clem and Marie (Grise) Hahn. She had been employed as a Sewing Machine Operator at the former American Door in Mishawaka, Indiana. On January 30, 1942 she married Lawrence G. Hooten, who preceded her in death on November 3, 1995. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Fern Megge; and her two brothers, Leroy (Gladys) Hahn and Warren (Florence) Hahn. Ethel is survived by two daughters, Ann Becker of Wichita, Kansas and Peggy (Terry) Johnson of LaPorte, Indiana; two sons, Lawrence E. (Willett) Hooten of New Carlisle, Indiana and Retired Col. Robert L. (Jan) Hooten of Decatur, Illinois; twelve grandchildren, Elizabeth Scott, Barbara (Randy) Chappell, Wendy Hooten, Shelly (Matt) Zitzlsperger, Joseph (Sierra) Hooten, Brian (Julie) Gray, Tricia (Robert) Holt, Tiffany (Kurt) Addington-Hostetler, Katharine Mink, Terry (Lucia) Johnson, Dillon Hooten, and Katelyn Hooten; twenty-five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. E.S.T. Wednesday, January 23, 2019, in the New Carlisle Wesleyan Church. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. E.S.T. Tuesday and from 9:00 a.m. until 9:45 a.m. E.S.T. Wednesday in the New Carlisle Wesleyan Church. Ethel was a member of the New Carlisle Wesleyan Church and the W.H. Circle for many years. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the New Carlisle Wesleyan Church.
