Delores R. Helfman

Delores Rosalee Helfman  passed away shortly after her 88th birthday, November 10, 2018, at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, IN.  She was surrounded by her children and the love of her brothers and sisters and family.  She was from a family of 15 and was preceded in death by brothers, Kenneth Singleton, Lester Singleton, Charles Singleton and Edward Singleton; and sisters, Ruby Jones, Shirley Brown, Alice Cox, Rose Grenert; and her father, Charles and mother, Lovina Singleton.

She was married in 1948 to Richard L. Helfman, Sr., who also preceded her in death.  They were divorced after 36 years of marriage but the two of them remained dear friends.  They had two children, Diane K. (Robert) Shultz and Richard L. (Cindy) Helfman, Jr.; four grandchildren, Thomas B. Singleton, Troy R. Singleton, Paul (Peggy) Helfman and David (Lisa) Helfman; seven great-grandchildren, Amber (Richard) Loy, Tristen Singleton, Bryce Singleton, Dawson Singleton, Katrina Helfman, Danielle (Joseph) Vargas, Aryn Helfman; and three great-great-grandchildren, R.J. Loy, Ariana Loy, and Avery Vargas.

Surviving brothers and sisters are Dorothy Grenert, Clara Rice of South Bend; Ronald Singleton, Jack Singleton of South Bend, William Singleton of Lydick and Walter Singleton of Tennessee.

Delores was employed as Office Manager at Dick Helfman Plumbing and Heating for 25 years until she retired at age 75.

Besides doting on her children and grandchildren, she had loved bowling, casinos, Bridge club and most of all, her gardening and keeping her yard nice.  She had two dogs whom she loved Buster & Blazer.

She was person who was very sweet and compassionate.  She taught her children the real meaning of family.  She was always there for them and they in return.  She will be sorely missed by family and friends.

Visitation will be Wednesday, November 14, 2018 from 4:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m. at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Dr. and services will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, November 15, 2018 in the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Diabetes Association or St. Joseph County Humane Society.
