Arthur DeLater Obituary

Arthur J. DeLater, 95, of New Carlisle, passed away Wednesday in his home. He was born on February 8, 1923, in Mishawaka, IN, to the late Robert J. and Marie (Maenhout) DeLater. On September 21, 1945 he married Barbara E. Thomas, who preceded him in death in August 2009. He was also preceded in death by a sister, brother, grandson and two son-in-laws. Arthur is survived by his daughter, Gail Summey of Mishawaka; three sons, Larry and Tom (Leanne) of South Bend and Jeff (Chris) of New Carlisle; eight grandchildren, Laura (Brian) Bemos of Oklahoma City, OK, Jackie (Al) Lujan of Los Lunas, NM, Jenny (Chris) Vogelsang of Fishers, IN, Amy (Brian) Kiefer of Toledo, OH, Daniel DeLater of Traverse City, MI, Brenda (Josh) Schweizer of New Carlilse, Erin (Garrett) Ginter of Mishawaka and Ian (Ashley) DeLater of South Bend; 16 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Joan (Junior) Pippenger and Marian (Ronald) Truex; two brothers, , John Loucks and Dave (Connie) Loucks; and by a sister-in-law, Jeanette Verheye. Mr. DeLater retired from Sibley Machine in February of 1986 after 35 years of service. Arthur was a proud US Marine Veteran of WWII and was an avid Notre Dame Football and Chicago Cubs fan. There will be no visitation. Private graveside services will be held at New Carlisle Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimers Services of Norther Indiana.
