William E. “Bill” Szajko, 70, of South Bend, Indiana passed away at 6:15 a.m. Friday, August 18, 2017 in his home.  Bill was born on December 22, 1946 in South Bend to Marion John and Margaret (Orzechowski) Szajko, and was a lifelong resident.  He retired in 2002 from Bendix/Allied Signal/Honeywell, where he was employed for 32 years.  On April 16, 1977 in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, he married Kathleen Lowman, who survives.  Also surviving are his children, Mary Szajko and John (Jainne) Szajko both of South Bend, Indiana; five grandchildren; three sisters, Patricia (Tony) Stough of Duneden, Florida, Anne Szajko of Huntersville, North Carolina, and June (Laury) Getford of Sanibel, Florida; and four brothers, Thomas (Cathy) Szajko of Mishawaka, Indiana, Paul (Vicky) Szajko of Niles, Michigan, Dan Szajko of Huntersville, North Carolina, and Ray Szajko of South Bend, Indiana.  Bill was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, James Szajko.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 22, 2017 in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.  Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. Monday in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, where a rosary will be prayed at 5:00 p.m.  Bill was a 1964 graduate of John Adams High School. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Parish and Usher’s Club; Knights of Columbus Council #5570; and the Knights of Columbus Father J. A. Nieuwland 4th Degree Assembly.  He was a volunteer for Right to Life, The Life Center, and St. Vincent de Paul Society.  Bill was a lifelong Green Bay Packers fan. He was also a Notre Dame Fan and served as an usher for their football games.  Memorial Contributions may be directed to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, The Life Center, or Right to Life.
