Rita M. Daugherty, Notre Dame, Indiana, passed away on November 5, 2017.
Rita was born Rita Marie Jette in Montreal, Canada, on January 11, 1922. Upon completion of her business school classes, she was employed as a secretary in the Canadian Bureau of Statistics. While vacationing in the United States, she met a banker, Foster W. Daugherty of Constantine, Michigan. They were married in 1959, and resided in Constantine. Rita and Foster eventually moved to, Cassopolis, Michigan, where they enjoyed living at their north shore home on Diamond Lake. They hosted many family and friends for lakeside getaways and holiday gatherings. Their active lives featured many activities in business, professional, fraternal, and social organizations in Cass and St. Joseph (Michigan) Counties, as well as extensive travels in the United States, Canada, and overseas. Hobbies included golf, reading, and playing bridge. Rita happily became a U.S. citizen in January of 1991, and was a longtime member of St Ann’s Catholic Church in Cassopolis. After Foster’s death, she moved to Holy Cross Village in Notre Dame, Indiana.
In addition to her husband Foster, two step children preceded Rita in death, Roger Daugherty of Bellevue, Washington, and Joy Navarre of Minneapolis, Minnesota. She is survived by three step children, David Daugherty (Nancy) of South Haven Michigan, Dan Daugherty (Pam) of Dayton, Ohio, and Dennis Daugherty of Mattawan, Michigan. Also she is survived by two brothers Pierre Jette, and Claude (Marie-Paule) Jette, and a sister Therese Poitras in Quebec, Canada, and many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
