Norma J. Baney, 86, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 5:00 p.m. Saturday, March 18, 2017 in her home, following an illness.

She was born on  August 1, 1930 to the late Norman E. and Bernice B. (Hazzard) Montague in Mishawaka, IN, and was a lifelong area resident.  Along with her parents; she was preceded in death by a daughter, Vickie A. Bely; a son, John W. Baney; a granddaughter, Jennifer J. Bely; two sisters, Geraldine Cooper; Edna Kimmey; and by three brothers, Donald, Larry, and Robert Montague.

Norma worked at the former Smith's Cafe in South Bend from 1945 - 1948.

Norma is survived by two daughters, Judith K. (John) Onderdonk of Mishawaka, IN; Rebecca J. (Vern) Johnson of Kalamazoo, MI; a son, Thomas W. Baney of South Bend, IN; six grandchildren, Sylvia S. Minder; Anthony J. Bely; Timothy Johnson, Jennifer Scott, Patricia Babhuyzen, and Sara Johnson; five great grandchildren, Otis Clayton Rowe, Jr.; Perry J. Rosebush; Ethan N. Bely; David Scott; Rebecca Babhuyzen; and eight great -great grandchildren, Marcus, Dominic, Aniyah, Haile, Ethan, Becca, Annabell, and Jordan.

Norma was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter #569 in South Bend, IN.  She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. 

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at Kaniewski Funeral Home, South Bend, IN, with Pastor Sam Ochstein officiating.  Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Garden, Osceola, IN.
