Maurice W. "Morrie" McFarland

MCFARLAND, Maurice, “Morrie”, age 86, passed away Monday, April 3, 2017. Morrie was born in South Bend, IN where he spent most of his life. He graduated from John Adams High School, Class of 49’. Morrie loved fishing, boating, traveling, (30+ trips to Jamaica) crafting homemade wine, and especially story-telling. His ability to recollect details of his past were truly captivating. Morrie’s presence would light up a room upon his arrival, and when he was entertaining, he would make your happiness, his personal mission. He would engage in conversation with anyone, the man didn’t know a stranger. Out of all of his amazing characteristics, his authenticity super-ceded them all.  Morrie was a devoted White Sox and Notre Dame fan. Morrie could always be found near water, whether it was captaining one of the “Mac Shack” boats on Lake Michigan, fishing on Juday Lake, his South Bend home for the past 20 years, or along the East Coast of Florida, where he and Shirley spent their winters for the past 20 years.  Morrie was also a beloved husband, father, grandfather, & great-grandfather, who loved to entertain.  Morrie is survived by his long-time soul-mate and wife of 63 years, Shirley (McGuire).; son, Bill; daughter, Pamela Concannon and her husband, Tim Concannon; 8 grandchildren, Tim (Jess),Jen(Scott), Mary(Andy), Caitlin, Christine (Kevin), Jonathan (Teresa), Elizabeth & Joseph, along with 8 great-grandchildren. A visitation will take place from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m on Sunday April 9, 2017 in The Kaniewski Funeral Home 3545 N. Bendix Dr, South Bend, In 46628.   A mass and memorial service will be held at Little Flower Catholic Church, 54191 N Ironwood Rd, South Bend, IN 46635 at 10:30 AM Monday, April 10th, 2017.  The family will receive friends and family from 9:30 to 10:30 AM, prior to the service. A luncheon will follow immediately after the service. Kaniewski Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
